TV presenter Lorraine Kelly has shared a succinct reaction to the positive health update from Princess Kate.
The Princess of Wales returned to the Royal Marsden Hospital on Tuesday (January 14), expressing her gratitude to the staff who offered her “exceptional” care during her chemotherapy treatment last year. She also took the opportunity to engage with cancer patients.
Following her visit, Kate took to social media to acknowledge those who had supported her post-diagnosis and expressed relief at being “now in remission”.
Before speaking with Royal Editor Russell Myers, Lorraine simply said “It is good” when discussing Kate’s health.
She added to Russell: “This is great. It’s just great news, isn’t it? It’s what we’ve all wanted to hear, and was so good to see her having such empathy with everyone.”
Russell highlighted the significance of Kate visiting the London hospital as one of her first engagements since resuming Royal duties, reports the Daily Record.
Reflecting on the impact of Kate’s visit, Lorraine said: “You could see it when people were interviewed after they’d spoken to her and how much it meant to them.”
She emphasised the importance of empathy, saying: “It’s all very well for people to go and say, ‘I sympathise’, but she empathises because she’s actually been through it herself. It makes all the difference in the world.”
During their discussion, the Scottish host remembered visiting the renowned London hospital to see her friend Dame Deborah James, who died from bowel cancer in 2022. She commended the “incredible” work being carried out there and lauded the “remarkable” atmosphere created for patients.
Yesterday, Kate’s visit to the hospital was significant as she became the patron of the specialist cancer centre, alongside her husband, Prince William.
Russell commented on her return, saying: “Moving forward, it’s great to see Kate back, but let’s give her the time, let’s give the space. I don’t think she’s going to be rushing back into any duties.”
Lorraine also expressed her sentiments, stating: “We do wish her well, and it was great to see her out and about with that empathy – that’s not something you learn, you either have that or you don’t and she absolutely has. It’s good to have some good news.”
Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
