BROKEN CAMERAS

Re “T.O. weighs options after 3 speed cameras smashed” (Jane Stevenson, Jan. 11): Vandalizing speed cameras is wrong and futile. Like them or not, they’re here to stay. Why? The City of Toronto is cash starved and the devices provide an effective way to raise revenue. The camera on Parkside Dr. alone has garnered about $6,996,944 in fines from 65,392 tickets issued since 2022. Unsurprisingly, the city has announced plans to double the number of cameras from 75 to 150 in the coming months, claiming this will promote road safety. But critics rightly note that the devices minimally deter speeding. Hence, speed cameras are primarily a thinly disguised means of taxation.

(It is futile since the city just puts up another one in its place and costs taxpayers each time. And yes, it is absolutely a cash grab)
FREELAND’S MESS
The Sun has it right, we can’t let Chrystia Freeland come out of this fiasco smelling like roses. She and Steven Guilbeault have been Justin Trudeau’s hand puppets from the beginning. She should have used a “guardrail” long before they doubled the national debt in a decade of decadence. It wasn’t until she got thrown under the Liberal bus that it all became “gimmicks.” She was bad then and she’s bad now.

(Let’s not forget that as an advisor to the Liberals, Mark Carney also had a big hand in the economic mess Canada is in)
CAMPBELL CAN DO IT
Is there any chance that somebody at the Sun could coax Kim Campbell out of retirement to fill the present “void” of people running for the office of prime minister? After all, she has had more “experience” at the job than any of the present contenders.

(Doubtful she’d want to go down in history again for the same thing)
51ST STATE
Does anyone really think Trump intends for Canada to become the 51st state. He would certainly not be happy with the deluge of Torontonian migrants pouring over the defunct imaginary line and cascading down the I-75 to flood the southeastern states seeking asylum from Olivia Chow’s torrent of taxes.
