A savvy young woman with impeccably smooth skin has voiced her frustration over the misconception that only expensive skincare products can lead to a glowing complexion. She’s shared her cost-effective tips for achieving beautiful skin without breaking the bank.

In our quest for the perfect glow, many of us go through years testing various skincare products. Social media is awash with advice on what to buy and techniques to adopt for that sought-after flawless finish. Yet, it seems, our skin doesn’t require as much attention as one might believe. Over-indulgence in skincare could strip away natural oils or even trigger adverse reactions.

Beauty and lifestyle influencer Amy Flamy, with an impressive 4.2 million TikTok followers, advocates for simple home remedies and affordable products for “so smooth” skin. Expressing her irritation, Amy stated: “You know what makes me so mad is when people tell me, oh you need to be rich in order to do skincare, to look pretty and to do basic hygiene care.

“Like b***h no. I maintained perfect skin when I was 17/18 and had like $30 (£24) to my name. Stop making excuses.”

Amy, hailing from the US, claims that effective skincare is attainable with items found at Walmart. She starts without any fancy equipment; just a pot of warm water. Detailing the procedure, she continues: “We’re going to take a towel and we’re going to put it over our head.”

Next, position your face near the bowl – ensuring you’re not too close to avoid burns – and let the steam work its magic for about three minutes, opening up your pores. Amy recommends following this with a cleansing oil, saying: “There is a cleansing oil that sells in Walmart called clean and clear – it’s under $6 [£4.92] so you can buy it.”

Amy advises that you should then use cleansing oil. She dispenses a few pumps of the oil into her hands along with a pinch of brown sugar – which costs £1.80 for a bag at Asda. Combining these creates a gentle scrub. Amy applies it carefully to her skin, focusing on the nose area, to cleanse and exfoliate.

She advises: “Use a little bit of sugar, not too much to scrub off and exfoliate all the dead skin cells and blackheads.” The recommendation is to use this sugar scrub every couple of weeks or so. To remove the cleansing scrub, she suggests using a warm, damp towel, noting: “You will feel that your skin is so smooth,”.

If you want to cleanse further, Amy advises used the Cetaphil cleansing foam – priced at £9.35 on Amazon. After putting the product on her face with some water and rub it gently until a foam forms, she takes the product off with a warm, wet cloth. Wowed by the results, Amy said in her video: “I cannot tell you how smooth and fresh my skin feels.”

Amy shared her budget-friendly beauty tips, revealing that she swears by the simple trick of using an ice cube under her eyes to help with tightening.

She also counts Vaseline as one of her go-to products, suggesting a thin layer under the eyes, on the forehead and chin, with any leftover applied to the lips. A tub of 50ml Vaseline will set you back £1.80 at Boots, or a tub of 100ml is £2.50 from Amazon.

For body care, she says that coconut oil is a great and cheap alternatives to body creams. “Look at how easy and affordable that was,” Amy added as she concluded her tutorial video.
