Yet another Canadian trucker has been pinched by U.S. cops for hauling a payload of deadly drugs worth a whopping $32 million on the street.
Arizona State Troopers pulled over a semi-truck on Monday on Interstate 40 near Holbrook, just west of the Petrified Forest National Park.
Upon inspection, troopers allegedly discovered 550 pounds of cocaine. Officers said that 31-year-old driver Amarjeet Singh Matharu was “suspected of showing multiple signs of criminal activity.”
Cops allege the cocaine was stashed behind a load of produce in the rear of the Volvo tractor-trailer that Matharu was driving.
Investigators said the cocaine was being smuggled from Los Angeles and Salinas, Calif. with its ultimate destination being the streets of Canada.
The driver — believed to be from the GTA — was arrested and caged in the Navajo County jail. He faces a slew of charges, including possession and transportation of narcotic drugs for sale.
American law enforcement have busted numerous Canadian truckers, including many from the GTA, in drug smuggling schemes.
In December, cops were tipped off about a load of cocaine being transported in a semi-tractor trailer destined for Canada.
Berrien County Sheriff’s deputies spotted the suspect vehicle and conducted an impromptu traffic stop on I-94 in western Michigan.
Assisted by Michigan State Police, cops searched the truck and trailer and say they discovered 123 pounds of cocaine hidden in the vehicle. Investigators estimated the drugs had a street value of around $1.5 million.
Driver Sukhraj Singh, 22, of Caledon, was arrested and taken to the Berrien County Jail where he awaits charges.
In October, St. Clair County Sheriff’s deputies seized more than 370 pounds of cocaine from a semi-tractor trailer in Port Huron. Sukjindr Singh, 29, of Peel Region, was nabbed on Oct. 15 when he was pulled over during a traffic stop on Pine Grove Ave. in Port Huron, across the St. Clair River from Sarnia.
Singh has now been charged with delivery of a controlled substance of 1,000 grams or more. The drugs have a street value of with a street value of $16.5 million, police said.
In September, Naseeb Chisty, 49, of Etobicoke, was arrested in northwestern Indiana after state troopers said they found nearly 300 pounds of cocaine in his semi-truck during a traffic stop on I-94 near Chesterton, about an hour southeast of Chicago.
In August, 42-year-old Canadian trucker Juli Sabosan Sathiaseelan was nabbed at the Blue Water Bridge with 266 pounds of cocaine after U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents said they discovered the secret payload..
In February, Canadian trucker Gagandeep Singh was arrested during a stop at the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit where feds seized about 661 pounds of cocaine worth $8.7 million
In May 2023, more than 132 pounds of cocaine was seized from a truck that entered Canada through Detroit over the Ambassador Bridge, and the truck’s driver, Jasbir Singh, 40, of Paris, Ont., was arrested.
Months earlier, Canadian officials seized nearly 600 pounds of suspected heroin, cocaine and methamphetamines on a truck entering Canada from Port Huron over the Blue Water Bridge. The truck’s driver, Arshdeep Singh, 23, of Quebec City, was arrested.
