Two pedestrians have been taken to hospital after they were struck by vehicles in separate incidents on Monday evening.

In Londonderry, one person was taken to hospital after being struck in the Francis Street area of the city.

A NI Ambulance Service (NIAS) spokesperson said: “The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 20:02 on Monday January 13 following reports of a traffic incident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, in the Francis St area of Derry City.

“NIAS despatched one Emergency Crew to the incident.

“Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital.”

It comes after one pedestrian was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Co Antrim earlier in the day.

Police closed a large section of a main road on the outskirts of Belfast as emergency services dealt with the incident on the Antrim Road in Newtownabbey on Monday evening.

The road has been closed from its junction with the Sandyknowes roundabout to its junction with the Hightown Road.

Diversions are in place.

The NI Ambulance Service (NIAS) confirmed one person was taken to hospital following the incident.

“The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 5.01pm on Monday January 13 following reports of a traffic incident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, in the Antrim Road area of Glengormley,” said a spokesperson.

“NIAS despatched two Emergency Crews, a HART Crew, an Advanced Paramedic and an Ambulance Officer to the incident.

“Ambulance Control also tasked the HEMS crew to attend by response car.

“Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken to RVH.”
