In a matter of days, Love Island All Stars will make its highly anticipated return to our screens, and it’s shaping up to be an awkward reunion for several contestants. The South African villa will play host to some familiar faces, including Marcel Somerville and Gabby Allen, who first found romance on the show back in 2017.
The former couple finished fourth in the finale, and their chemistry seemed undeniable at the time. Following their stint on the show, they began making plans for a life together.
In September 2017, they were already looking to the future, and by February 2018, Gabby was hinting at a potential wedding, saying on This Morning: “We’ve discussed whether we’d get married abroad. We’ve only been together for eight months, so you’d think it would be quick. But it’s so magnified that it’s already spoken about.”
However, their relationship ultimately came to an end in May 2018, while they were on holiday in Mexico. Since then, Marcel has gotten married to Rebecca Vieira, with whom he has a son named Roman, although the couple has since parted ways, and Marcel is now on the hunt for love once again.
Gabby and Marcel’s breakup in 2018 took the UK entertainment world by surprise. Gabby took to Instagram to share her feelings, stating: “Thank you to everyone for your kind messages, love and support.
“It’s been tough couple of days, I think I might still be in a bit of shock! But I’m sure in time I will be OK. I have the best family and friends around me. I’m a lucky girl.”
The following day brought more drama as Marcel admitted to being unfaithful to Gabby during their holiday in Mexico, amidst rumours of an argument. The musician expressed his remorse and hope for forgiveness, acknowledging that he would always regret his indiscretion.
Speculation is rife among Love Island fans about the possibility of Marcel and Gabby reuniting. Even the show’s host, Maya Jama, has weighed in with her hopes for the pair, saying: “Marcel is such a sweetheart, Gabby is just the loveliest human as well.
“So, I’m kind of rooting for them to get back together, but who knows, they could end up in a cute friendship. We’re not sure at this point, but neither of them know the other’s going in, so that’s going to be just fireworks anyway.”
