Fans of The Chase have voiced their frustrations over the lengthy introductions of the show’s stars, arguing that it detracts from the game itself.
Devotees of the popular ITV quiz show believe they are already familiar with Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha, Shaun Wallace, Jenny Ryan, Mark Labbett and Darragh Ennis, and see no need for constant reminders. This sentiment was echoed in a Reddit thread where one user asked what others would “remove” from the show, sparking a passionate response.
One fan expressed their annoyance at the Chaser introductions, stating: “Definitely the Chaser introductions like Paul being smug, Jenny being hot etc,” adding that “They are not funny in the slightest and take away valuable time for hearing at least one more answer explanation in the head to heads from the Chaser.”
Another participant listed some of the repetitive comments made about the Chasers, such as “Mark and his diet/weight loss, the fact that Darragh is a scientist/Irish by birth, the fact Shaun is a barrister/how ‘boring’ his book is (I haven’t read it but contestants have said it’s good/inspiring), and some gender comments (? ) about Anne.”
They concluded by saying: “They’re not funny and are rather predictable by now,” reports the Express.
A third viewer agreed, suggesting that the Chasers’ overused “catchphrases” should be eliminated to allow more time for gameplay. While most fans concurred on this point, one individual had a different suggestion.
“[I’d remove] the ability to claim your share of the money if you say you’re just ‘here for the experience’,” they joked.
The quiz show may be grabbing headlines, but fans are equally expressive about its mobile incarnation that’s now up for grabs on smartphones. Since 2023, quiz fans can get their hands on The Chase: World Tour game, which is available to download for free from Google Play.
With more than 100,000 downloads to date, those accustomed to shouting answers at their TV screens now have a portable platform for their quiz battles, ready at their fingertips any time they fancy.
The game’s description entices with a challenge: “Do you love trivia, general knowledge and quizzes? Standing in the way between you and the chance to win big are The Chasers, some of the finest quiz brains in the world.”
It continues, setting the stage for riveting play: “Based on the hit TV show, The Chase: World Tour is a brand new game where you can show off your knowledge by taking on our famous Chasers to bring home your winnings and prove yourself a champion quizzer. The Chase is on!”
Looking ahead, the chase is set to heat up with new chasers joining the fray in early 2025. This comes in response to calls from players for fresh faces and an updated experience, which is a move likely to keep the buzz going strong.
The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV1
