Brits are cancelling their Benidorm holidays and many returning have said they “won’t be back”. It comes after a worrying warning about so-called ‘Muggers Alley’ – as holidaymakers are alerted to “Muggers Alley” by TikTok user @harrytokky.
Harry has claimed that pickpockets are spoiling people’s breaks in the sunny holiday hotspot. He said a path between a block of flats and a police station off Calle Verona has become “risky” – it’s a location close to the popular Morgan’s Tavern which some call ‘Muggers’ Alley’.
Urging people to “be careful” when walking down the alley late at night and to “stay safe”, Harry received responses to his post from others sharing that it’s “notorious”. One person responding to Harry’s post urged holidaymakers to “walk round where the bins are, cross the road and you’ll be fine, believe me.”
The caption claimed that the muggers supposedly “don’t bother women, only drunk males”, reports Birmingham Live. Another said: “I’ve stayed in the hotel beside it and seen plenty of muggings from the window.” The social media user added: “It’s notorious for it.”
Another TikTok user responded: “Road near Buddies [bar] too at top of square. Path to Tiki Beach at night and Yellow Brick Road at night. After midnight [the] beach [is] not safe.” And a fellow holidaymaker wrote back to confirm the danger claiming it’s “been like that for years in that spot.”
Another said that just after spending a week in Benidorm, and enjoying it, “the setback was the increase in the number of beggars and tricksters on the streets”.
They added: “The conmen with the three cups and a pea are all over the place, the beggars can seem rather menacing to people alone.”
Wading into the conversation, another commented: “Every night between 12am and 5am in the morning they sit outside KFC opposite Rockeys bar in Ave Gerona in the busy area. They wait for English tourists to walk by after a few drinks.”
Another typed: “The police seemed to be aware of the group but due to so many English tourists not wanting the hassle and not reporting it they have not managed to arrest the Romanians. The following night we saw them again and they ran off in the same street. Four other English men that saw them run said they had had the same happen to them.”
One wrote “and that’s why I won’t be back.” While someone else typed: “We saw a drunk bloke – she grabbed him started kissing him then took stuff out his back pockets then walked off. We said you just been robbed he said yeh, wallets gone and phone.”
