A nine-year-old boy is dead after a single-vehicle rollover on the QEW in Oakville early Monday.

It appeared he was not wearing a seatbelt, OPP say.

OPP say the crash happened in the westbound lanes near Bronte.

There were three people in the vehicle and two were taken to hospital.

The 38-year-old driver was initially believed to have suffered minor injuries but the child passenger had critical injuries.

Police later said the boy had died. OPP said he had been asleep in the back seat and was ejected. OPP believe the driver was fatigued, leading to the crash.

The driver’s injuries have been upgraded to critical and they remain in hospital.

Burlington OPP ask any witnesses to call 905-681-2511.

The westbound lanes that were closed from Burloak to Bronte have since reopened.
