Tributes have been paid following the tragic death of a young woman in Ballina, Co Mayo.

The body of Róisín Cryan (28) from Attyrory, Carrick-on-Shannon, Leitrim, was recovered from the River Moy yesterday morning.

Ms Cryan, was fiancé of Mayo senior footballer Conor Loftus (29).

The All-Ireland intermediate football final between Ballinderry and Crossmolina Deel Rovers, which was due to take place in Croke Park this afternoon, was postponed as a result.

In a statement posted on X/Twitter, Crossmolina said: “@DeelRoversGAA are devastated at the news of the tragic incident that has occurred.

“Our heartfelt thoughts are with the family and friends at this difficult time.

“We have been in contact with our members involved, and they have requested that we all understand their need for privacy at this incredibly difficult time.

“Our Intermediate All Ireland Final game, scheduled for this Sunday, the 12th, has been postponed, and we will announce a rescheduled date once confirmed.

“Our club will be issuing no further statement at this time.”

Ms Cryan has been remembered among the many tributes posted on social media and on rip.ie as a “beautiful soul” whose death has rocked the local communities.

In a tribute on Facebook, local GAA club, Shannon Gaels wrote: “On behalf of the entire Shannon Gaels GAA community, we extend our deepest condolences to Joe and Marguerite, Conor, Annmarie, Clare, Ruth, Maeve and the Cryan family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this incredibly difficult time. May you find strength and comfort in each other, and know that we stand with you in your grief.”

Tributes have flooded RIP.ie, with one sympathiser writing: “She was so welcoming and kind to everyone. Absolutely a beautiful person, inside and out. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to meet her.”

The funeral for Ms Cryan will take place at St Mary’s Church, Carrick-on-Shannon on Wednesday at 11am followed by burial in Drumlion cemetery.

Her death notice said she will “sadly missed by her heartbroken family. Forever cherished daughter of Joe and Marguerite, loving fiancé Conor Loftus, adored sisters Annmarie, Clare, Ruth and Maeve”.
