Ruben Amorim has hailed Altay Bayindir after Manchester United’s FA Cup win over Arsenal on Sunday.

The goalkeeper saved a penalty from Martin Odegaard in normal time before then repeating the trick with Kai Havertz in the dreaded shootout.

The match had gone the distance after earlier efforts from Bruno Fernandes and Gabriel, with Diogo Dalot sent off in between.

But Bayindir’s heroics have sent United through to the fourth round of the competition, with the fallen giants dreaming of retaining their trophy.

Amorim was asked about Bayindir after the match.

And the United boss expressed his delight with the 26-year-old’s performance, while also describing the shot-stopper as a ‘hero’.

“He’s a good guy, he works a lot and life has beautiful things,” he said.

“A few weeks ago we were suffering through a difficult moment but now he’s like a hero for us.

“All the players in this team who have the opportunity and they are lucky because they are playing for Manchester United.

“It doesn’t matter if you play one game or 90 games, its always a joy to play for this club.”

United have struggled for consistency under Amorim ever since his appointment in November.

With their victory over Arsenal coming just a week after a spirited performance away at Liverpool, however, they appear to be turning a corner.

And Amorim was pleased with United’s performance, with the former Sporting Lisbon coach adding: “Thankfully the players were there, they fought.

“Sometimes what we talk about before the match is not tactical or technical, it’s this.

“We have to compete no matter what, no matter what the situation we competed today.

“We deserved to win, Arsenal didn’t deserve to lose but we deserved to win. The way we played, the way we fought was really tough since the beginning. We didn’t have the ball too much but we had control without the ball.

“Sometimes we have the feeling that everything in the end is going to be okay. I felt that since the beginning of the second half, even after the penalty.

“I think the Arsenal team felt that maybe today is not their day.
