Two men now face mischief charges stemming from a pro-Palestinian protest at Union Station on New Year’s Day.

Toronto Police say officers attended the rally that took over the main hall at the Go station near Bay and Front Sts. shortly after 1 a.m. on Jan. 1.

“It is alleged that a group of protestors were demonstrating inside the building,” Const. Sinderela Chung said in a statement released Saturday.

“Two of the protestors discharged a smoke canister,” she said, explaining Union station began to fill with smoke “causing safety concerns.”

Investigators subsequently identified two suspects and arrested them both on Friday.

Ahmad Hassan Hajahmad, 31, of Mississauga, and Nabil Suheil Jalbout, 24, of Burlington, are each charged with one count of mischief interfere with the lawful use of property.

Both are scheduled to attend a court appearance on Feb. 20.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to call police at 416-808-3500 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
