Holidaymakers who dread the thought of their luggage going missing can now take a leaf out of a savvy traveller’s book, as shared on TikTok by @thepilottwins.
For anyone who’s felt that pang of anxiety not knowing if their carefully curated outfits have successfully travelled with them, there’s a tech-savvy solution to the rescue. The sickening feeling when your bag is lost or delayed on day one of your break is all too familiar for some.
You’re left with the contents of your carry-on and often find yourself shopping to replace essentials. But in a game-changing move, @thepilottwins disclosed on TikTok a way to alleviate the fear of mislaid baggage; while it may not prevent loss, you’ll at least know its location.

They suggested for iPhone owners to “buy an Apple AirTag” and “put it in your check-in luggage”. This hack lets you “follow your luggage during your trip,” providing peace of mind upon landing by confirming your belongings have indeed arrived.
More reassuringly, they added, as you get ready for flight mode, a pre-flight check ensures your bags are aboard too.
A demonstration on how tracking looks in the ‘Find My’ app was shown, displaying precise tracking akin to locating friends via the app, so you can confidently await your bags on the carousel with ease.
Customising your Air Tag with a preferred name and emoji turns tracking into a unique experience. As they concluded the video, they mentioned: “Thank us later.”
On Amazon, Air Tags are now only £28, reduced from £35. It’s necessary to replace the battery around once yearly, a simple task you can perform yourself. Considering the benefits, it’s certainly worth the money in terms of travel peace of mind.
A query was raised in the comments: “Will not intervene with the radio frequency of the plane?” Someone responded: “Nope, it doesn’t use a cellular network, just Bluetooth.” However, this does mean your AirTag might take a short time to appear post-flight as you switch off airplane mode.
Yet, some were not impressed, expressing: “That would be so bad; imagine seeing it on a different plane and then having to worry your whole flight about your luggage not being on board.” The original poster pointed out: “At least you’d know where it was” upon arrival, enabling immediate action.
Another person supported the tool, stating: “I use an Air Tag in every bag that I use.. not just the carry-on! It’s just a relief to know where your bag is!”
