Former Top Gear star Richard Hammond’s eldest daughter Isabella Hammond – Izzy – has broken her silence on Instagram since the news of her parents split after 28 years.

On Thursday afternoon, Hammond posted a statement to his X account on behalf of himself and his wife Amanda – Mindy – Hammond to announce their divorce after 28 years of marriage.

The statement read: “A little update from us; this Christmas we were together as a family and this year we will still be a family but just structured a bit differently.

“Our marriage is coming to end, but we’ve had an amazing 28 years together and two incredible daughters.

“We will always be in each other’s lives and are proud of the family we created.

“We won’t be commenting further and sincerely hope that our privacy and that of our children will be respected at this time. With Love, Richard and Mindy.”

The star’s eldest daughter is yet to comment on her parent’s split but recently showed off that she is trying to forget the family issues as she jetted off to Texas.

Posting an array of images on her Instagram grid, she captioned the post: “Went to Texas. Did some cool Red Bull F1 car stuff.”

Some of the pictures included a selfie wearing a cowboy hat and boots, backstage for Redbull F1, a baseball game and her incredible size difference next to a Ford supercar.

Fans of Hammond were left stunned when he announced his split from Mindy and took to the comment section of the post to share their condolences.

One penned: “I am so sorry to hear that as splitting up after 28 years together must be absolutely devastating.

Another added: “So sorry to be reading this. 28 years is some good going and will be difficult for you and the family I can understand that. Sending love to you all and wish you the best for the next chapter ahead.”

“Best of luck with the next chapter for both of you,” another added before someone else said: “All the best for you four, guys. The end doesn’t necessarily mean bad things, so, all the best, and better to come.” (sic)

Hammond’s daughter recently opened up about her father’s two crashes which left him “barely human” and having to “relearn how to be a human being” after his first horror crash.

He was hospitalised after crashing a Vampire Dragster at a speed in excess of two-hundred miles-per-hour while filming a segment for Top Gear in 2006.

In the Road to Success Podcast that was released on Monday, she said the crash affected the members of the family in “varying different ways”.

She said: “The recovery was the thing that affected us as a family. Everyone talks about the crash and about how it was massive and scary. It was more that he was absolutely doolally for months and months afterwards.

“He was just not with it at all so I just have a lot of gaps in memory of him as a dad because for a long time he wasn’t.

“He was barely a human, he could barely function. He was trying to relearn how to be a human being, let alone be a father figure.”
