Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane, who was already out this season due to abdominal surgery last fall, has had his rehab put on hold because of knee surgery this week.

The hard-checking winger underwent knee surgery on Thursday, according to a release from the Oilers Friday morning.

While the surgery is unrelated to his prior procedure, the hockey club said it means that rehab work is on hold while he recovers, which should take about four to eight weeks.

Kane will be speaking to media later Friday morning.
