A 29-year-old man has been charged to court in relation to the shooting of an off-duty police officer in the Beverley Road area of Newtownabbey on Monday night.

The man has been charged with a number of offences, including attempted murder, false imprisonment and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

He is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Saturday January, 11

As is usual procedure all charges will be reviewed by the PPS.

The injured PSNI officer has since been discharged from hospital and continues to be supported by colleagues as he recovers.

He had been receiving treatment for what the PSNI called “non-life-threatening injuries”.

A police spokesperson previously said the incident is not being treated as terrorism related.
