Over the festive season, our kitchens and appliances have truly been put through their paces, with the Christmas cooking marathons leaving behind a legacy of splattered food and stubborn grime. With the arrival of the New Year, there’s no better time to address the fallout.

BBC Good Food has come to the rescue with their expert advice on getting your oven back to its gleaming best, and all without resorting to harsh chemicals., reports the Express. They took to social media earlier this month to share their tips, posting: “Is your oven in need of a little TLC after all that Christmas cooking? Try this eco-friendly cleaning hack using bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar.

“Forget the harsh chemicals, we’re using a safe, eco-friendly method with just baking soda and vinegar.

“First prep. Removing the oven door means you can better access the oven cavity. We recommend giving the inside of the oven a good wipe down to remove surface level grime. Remove all the racks and the oven trays.”

To whip up their recommended cleaning concoction, grab yourself a pot or bowl. They continued: “Mix baking soda with water to form a thick paste. You’re looking for the consistency of wet sand.

“Spread the paste all over the inside of your oven, avoiding the heating elements. Let it sit for 12 to 24 hours to loosen grime and grease.”

In a post from Good Food (@goodfoodeveryday) shared, they continued: “Finish by spraying a 50/50 water and vinegar solution to remove any residue and give a streak-free shine. Using wire wool and a little bit of elbow grease. Scrub the racks. These should become nice and clean very easily.”

The result is a gleaming oven, achieved without harsh chemicals, all set for your culinary exploits in 2025.
