Bentancur fell awkwardly during the early stages of the match while attempting to head the ball at a Liverpool corner.

Medical staff attended to the midfielder for 10 minutes on the pitch.

The situation appeared serious as oxygen was administered to Bentancur while he lay on the field.

He was eventually removed from the pitch on a stretcher as concerned teammates and spectators looked on.

It was announced at half-time that Bentancur had been taken to hospital, though he remained conscious and was able to communicate.

Despite the concerning situation with their teammate, Tottenham managed to secure a crucial 1-0 victory over Liverpool.

Lucas Bergvall proved to be the match-winner, scoring the decisive goal that gave Spurs the advantage in the semi-final tie.

The result puts Tottenham in a strong position ahead of next month’s second leg at Anfield, where they will compete for a place in the final.

Speaking after the match, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou addressed the concerning incident.

“There’s nothing too detailed (at this stage),” Postecoglou told reporters. “He was conscious when he came off the field and he’s been taken to hospital for some observations so we’re hoping he’ll be okay.”

The manager acknowledged the emotional impact on the squad.
