Police have reported a driver for their “unacceptable” Hollywood-inspired move on the road during a yellow warning, which has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter).
The unnamed person behind the wheel had been driving “like Ace Ventura,” according to officers, who have since shared an image of the car’s icy windows. Merseyside Police’s Roads Policing Unit confirmed they had pulled the driver of a Mercedes and said the luxury vehicle had since been taken off the roads.
A post to Roads Policing Unit’s X page reads: “Just when you think you have seen it all! This vehicle was being driven exactly as you see it in the picture with the driver hanging out of the window Ace Ventura style. We didn’t think we needed to say it, but that is simply not acceptable and the driver has been reported.”
A further post showed a Merseyside Police dog sat in the front of the car and pulling a similar pose to that of the driver’s, which was not seen but explained by the force in a post to social media.
They added: “Can you believe it! We have just been in the yard and caught @MerPolDogs Police Dog Mo, doing exactly the same thing as he gets the cars ready for patrol. No extra treats tonight and an educational talking to from his handler!”
The now-viral post has been shared on numerous occasions, accompanied by a GIF of Jim Carrey in the hit franchise, Ace Ventura. His performance in the film at one point sees him with his head out of the window, staring at oncoming traffic with a smashed windshield.
One user joked: “Blimey, only in the UK would someone drive like they’re auditioning for the next Ace Ventura reboot. Next time, mate, maybe just use the windscreen wipers, yeah?”
While the windshield of the Mercedes was not destroyed, it was completely covered in snow, causing concern for officers attending the scene. Another stunned social media user asked: “This isn’t parody?”
A third added: “Dear God, what possesses some people? Madness.” Some were left stunned not by the windscreen but how little people would scrape away of the snow on their own vehicles.
One user wrote: “Worst I’ve seen (aside from this) is people who clear away a square to look out of.”
Another agreed, writing: “You know what, who amongst us has not driven a car with just a small pane of visibility right above the dash causing us to duck our head to see the road?”
