Making sure your fussy children eats can be a difficult task, especially if their safe foods aren’t available or filling.
One mum named Synclair has shared her experience with having two toddlers who are fussy eaters, claiming she happily feeds them a plate of shredded cheese for dinner.
Posting a video onto Instagram, she showed her viewers one of the meals she’ll give her kids if they’re feeling especially picky for dinner.
In the video, Synclair is seen sprinkling a layer of cheese onto a plate before microwaving it, saying it was her toddler’s choice of dinner that day.
“Head’s up if you’re feeling guilty about feeding your toddler. Here’s what mine ate for dinner tonight because he refused a tortilla with his quesadilla,” she wrote on the video.
She went on to explain in the caption of the video: “This is a huge hit with my picky eaters.”
While the video scooped thousands of views, commentators weren’t sure what to think about the meal. Some people were quick to criticise the mum for her parenting choices.
One person wrote: “Parents who allow this are weak,” while another user said: “Have you tried parenting?” Others showed their support for Synclair, saying she did the right thing for not forcing anything onto her kids.
Someone argued: “He got his protein, what more can you ask?” while another one added: “Cheese is far from the worst thing a kid could eat. Some protein, some fat, good calcium – pick your battles.”
A few viewers also shared their own experiences of having grown up as a fussy eater, and how they were happy to see Synclair listening to her children.
“Thank you very much, that helped my soul more than you think,” a third user wrote.
“You’re a fantastic mum. When I was a kid, I was extremely malnutritioned and underweight because my parents just put whatever they were also having in front of me, and if I didn’t eat it, that was that. I just wouldn’t eat for days in a row until they made a meal that I was comfortable with,” another user revealed.
The person continued: “But the whole ‘they’ll eat when they’re hungry enough’ thing doesn’t work, I just ended up under developed and my period came three years later than it should have because of the starvation. Parents who are willing to help their kids eat SOMETHING are incredible.”
