The Chase enthusiasts were left seeing red as they voiced the same gripe about one question.
In the episode aired on Thursday (January 9), ITV’s popular quiz show welcomed four fresh challengers to go up against Jenny Ryan.
After eliminating two contestants, John and Tracy took on The Vixen in the final chase. They executed a stellar performance, correctly answering 17 questions as a pair.
Although Jenny stumbled initially in her bid to catch the team’s total, she succeeded in recovering as time ticked away.
With the contest appearing to hang in the balance, Jenny’s late error could have given the team a chance to hit back with a pushback and seize the victory, reports the Express.
Yet, it was Bradley Walsh’s question that annoyed viewers at home. The host queried: “What term refers to knives, forks and spoons collectively?”
After The Vixen responded “cutlery” accurately, viewers were left aghast at the question’s simplicity.
“The strongest chaser who rarely gets beat is asked what’s the collective name for knives, forks and spoons pfft,” lamented a disgruntled viewer on Twitter.
Another chimed in: “What term is referred to knives forks and spoons collectively? My god.”
A different viewer remarked, “We’re Running out of time, so bring out questions as easy as what makes up cutlery. ” He attached an image captioned, “This game is rigged, man.”
An additional fan expressed incredulity: “As if one of the questions she got was the collective term for spoons, knives and forks.”
In the end, Jenny defeated the pairing with seven seconds to spare.
During the game’s earlier stages, Jenny faced Anousha, a 19-year-old law student who impressed the chaser with six correct answers in the cash builder. Yet, her knowledge wasn’t enough, as Jenny caught her before reaching the final chase.
Hanish, 54, also fell short of adding £5,000 to the team’s pot when he was caught.
After triumphing over John and Tracy, Jenny acknowledged how crucial it is to have a “full house” in the final chase.
She commented on the contestants’ efforts: “Particularly Anousha, she would have been very fast in that final and just picked up a couple where you were letting the energy drop a little bit.”
The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
