Whilst the prolonged cold snap Northern Ireland is currently facing is ‘snow’ joke for some, some hotel staff members in Co Down have been loving experiencing the frosty weather.

Social media snaps of the staff frolicking in the snow for the first time has been gaining a lot of traction online.

On Tuesday morning, Millbrook Lodge in Ballynahinch posted photographs to their Facebook pages, showing three of their workers – who are originally from India – enjoying the fresh snowfall.

They added: “For some of our staff all the way from India, this was their first time seeing snow.

A spokesperson for the hotel told this newspaper: “We had such a lovely reaction to the photos – some really wholesome content on those (often dreary) first days of January.”

They also noted that the men didn’t feel too much of a chill either, as they were taken inside after for hot port and a cheeseboard.

The only places that ever see snowfall in India are the Himalayan foothills, as most of India lies in the tropical zone, so the snow is unheard of.

However, Umesh, Ram and Jose will be well used to the snow by the end of this week, as chilly conditions are here to stay for at least another full day.

A fresh weather warning for wintery showers and ice came into force yet again for Northern Ireland, in place from 4pm on Thursday, until 10am on Friday, with the Met Office saying continuing adverse conditions could lead to travel disruption.

Tonight is thought to be the coldest of winter yet.

It is expected to be mainly dry and clear, with a widespread sharp frost and freezing fog patches.

There’s also a chance of light wintry showers along the north coast this evening, with minimum temperatures of -5C, and the thermometer possibly even dropping to as far as -10C in rural areas, such as Castlederg in Co Tyrone.
