Fans of the BBC series The Traitors were at odds with one of its hosts after they claimed that the most recent mission was their ‘favourite’.
Thursday’s (January 9) episode delivered a fresh wave of tears and tense confrontations. Although the Traitors didn’t commit any murders, there was a botched recruitment attempt and another Faithful was sent packing after a dramatic Round Table.
The aftermath was all dissected on the show’s companion visual podcast, Traitors Uncloaked, hosted by Ed Gamble. Joined by ex-contestant Diane and comedian Nish Kumar, the panel delved into the episode’s happenings, including the latest mission.
Contestants mostly worked in pairs, navigating through a sequence of circus-themed doors, reports Wales Online. Choosing the correct door allowed them to advance, with each pair adding some cash to the prize pot, and the first duo to complete the course winning shields.
However, choosing incorrectly meant an encounter with a killer clown. This menacing figure would let out a scream and burst the balloon they were carrying, knocking them out of the mission.
Ed commented on the mission, saying: “This is my favourite mission, which is why we’ve got the (clown) mask there.” Yet, this view wasn’t echoed by fans as they took to social media to share their thoughts on the challenge.
One viewer questioned: “What on earth is this local carnival budget mission they’ve just put up a load of doors in the nearby field.” They weren’t alone in sharing their thoughts, with some viewers expressing less-than-glowing opinions.
One person simply asked: “Have [they] run out of mission ideas[? ]” Another chimed in: “This mission would have been way more fun if it was more Takeshi’s Castle.”
Meanwhile, one viewer was frustrated that contestants kept describing patterns in front of them instead of just numbering the options. As a fan of Channel 4’s Taskmaster, they suggested that the objective could have been more complex, saying: “There’s four doors on each, don’t describe the pattern just say which number is correct. Also, I would’ve looked through the red curtain to see if there were clues.”
The Traitors continues tomorrow at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer followed by Uncloaked on BBC Two.
