The Traitors returns to our screens tonight (Wednesday, January 8), after the show’s last episode ended on a cliff-hanger that’s left audiences hooked for the next episode. Taking place in an extravagant castle in the Scottish Highlands, contestants complete tasks and banish players in order to have a chance to win a cash prize of up to £120,000.
Faithfuls work to complete challenges and stay safe from murder, whilst the traitors try to sabotage the faithfuls’ efforts, avoid banishment, and complete murders each night. Faithfuls must banish all traitors by the final episode if they want to win the cash prize, if just one traitor remains, they get to take home every penny.
It’s been five days since the last episode aired, so here’s everything you need to know before tonight’s episode, hosted by Claudia Winkelman.
What happened last episode?
Last episode, which aired on Friday, January 3, saw the first banishment of a traitor. Armani was banished after receiving nine votes at the roundtable, with her own sister Maia saying she’s “60 per cent sure” Armani is a traitor.
This is the first time in series three that the group has successfully banished a traitor, after previously banishing Nathan and Elen, who were both faithfuls.
Earlier in the day, the contestants had completed a task where they had to light a ring of fire by collecting fuel on a rowboat. Those who were in the middle of the ring of fire became immune from murder that night. It wasn’t until the contestants had begun the task that they realised some players would have to sacrifice their chance at immunity in order for the group to win the game, with two players having to exit the boat in order for each tank of fuel to be collected.
Six players stepped off the boat in exchange for fuel, making them eligible to be the remaining traitors’ – Linda and Minah – next target.
It was not revealed who the traitors decided to murder, but Minah said, “I just feel like murdering this person is just going to spin everybody’s minds and just keep everybody second guessing everything.”
The episode ended on a shot of a carriage that read ‘rail replacement’, making many viewers wonder if Fozia, Jack, and Alexander would finally be entering the castle, after stepping off of the train as part of a challenge in the first episode.
