It is no secret that Vancouver, West Vancouver and Whistler have some of the most expensive homes on the planet, let alone B.C.

But a review of the B.C. Assessment Authority’s list of the 500 most-valuable homes does have a smattering of very valuable suburban homes.

Here are a few …

Michael Bublé’s home at 7868 Government Rd., Burnaby

World-class crooner Michael Steven Bublé built his 12,000-sq.-ft. mansion on Government Road in 2018 and has used it as his home base ever since.

According to the assessment authority, it is the 32nd most-valuable home in the province, and the most expensive suburban property, valued at $27,959,000.

The city of Burnaby’s property tax calculator estimates Bublé will have to pay around $175,000 in property taxes in 2025, including $98,000 in school taxes.

Bublé built the home directly across from his childhood Seaforth Elementary School.

Paying those taxes should not be too much of a task, with Postmedia’s Nathan Griffiths reporting Bublé was expected to earn US$6 million over the Christmas season from song royalties.

Of note, the home has an ice rink in the basement, a tennis court, pool and a putting green.

19683 0 Ave., Langley

This 7,200-sq.-ft. home is on a 29.5-acre property right on the Canada-U.S. border in the Township of Langley.

Assessment records show that as of July 1, 2024, it was valued at $18,218,000 — the 144th most-valuable property in B.C. and the most valuable in Langley.

1300 Ioco Rd., Port Moody

Coming in at No. 442 on the top 500 list is a 5.3-acre parcel of waterfront land with an old house on it on the Port Moody end of Burrard Inlet.

The property sits between the water and the CP rail line, and is close to large housing subdivisions, likely resulting in its high value of $13,016,000.

A B.C. company, Sunnyside Properties Ltd., has owned the land since the early 1970s, so appears to be in no rush to develop.

3160 Humber Rd., Victoria

This home is in Victoria’s Oak Bay district, the most expensive residential part of Vancouver Island. There are 12 Oak Bay properties on the top 500 list, with 3160 Humber Rd. topping those at No. 164.

The $17,286,000 property is on a 1.87-acre spit of land on the south end of Cadboro Bay and has an 11,290-sq.-ft. home.

13616 Marine Dr., White Rock

An almost 10,000-sq.-ft. home sits on this 3.17-acre piece of land overlooking Boundary Bay in White Rock.

Listed at No. 174, this $16,971,000 property has four bedrooms and six bathrooms.
