Love Island star Marcel Somerville has confessed that he’s in need of guidance as he makes a dramatic return to the ITV show.
The 39-year-old is set to become the oldest contestant on Love Island UK when he appears in the 2025 All-Stars spin-off, premiering on January 13th on ITV2.
Marcel first captured viewers’ attention in 2017, finishing fourth alongside his then-partner Gabby Allen and earning a reputation for offering words of wisdom to his fellow islanders. However, following the high-profile breakdown of his marriage to Rebecca Vieira last year and his earlier split from Gabby, Marcel has acknowledged that he could benefit from some advice himself.
In an interview with ITV, he said: “In my series, I was deemed Dr Marcel; I was giving everyone love advice. Since the show, I’ve gone through a lot of situations in life and in love so I’ve topped up my knowledge… but I feel like maybe I need to take some advice when it comes to love this time round as well.”
When asked about his decision to join the All-Stars version, Marcel explained: “I thought that I’d completed love and found my happily ever after but the universe had a different plan. Somehow every time my life’s at a crossroads, I’ve got the opportunity to do Love Island. So I thought, why not?”
Love Island’s 2017 couple Gabby and Marcel saw the end of their romance in 2018 following Marcel’s infidelity. Following that chapter, Marcel made headlines once again by marrying TV figure Rebecca Vieira in 2022a union that soon faced a significant test when rumours of Rebecca’s affair with an American pop singer surfaced, reports OK!.
Subsequently, Rebecca admitted to the infidelity last year amid escalating rumours. During this tumultuous period, Marcel shared with Mail Online: “I’ve gone through a little bit of a crazy time in my life.”
He added: “I’ll talk more about it at a later time, as I’m not really ready to talk about what’s going on right now. We’re working through the situation to get the best outcome that we can.”
It is currently understood that Marcel, whilst still officially married to Rebecca, is in the midst of divorce proceedings.
