Love Island voiceover star Iain Stirling delivered a playful dig at All Stars contestant Marcel Sommerville during an appearance on Good Morning Britain. The comedian discussed the much-anticipated All Stars edition of the hit ITV2 series, which kicks off on Monday 13 January.

During his GMB chat with hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls, the topic arose about the age of this season’s Islanders, specifically Marcel, who, at 39, is older than 36 year old Iain. It marks the first time an Islander has been older than the narrator.

“Seeing all these old Islanders again, it’s like a little nostalgic trip through,” remarked Iain, leading Susanna to highlight Marcel’s age, by saying: “Isn’t this the first time that a Love Islander has entered the Love Island villa who is older than you? It’s like when you see policemen getting younger.”

Iain mused over Marcel’s age, guessing, “Marcel, who is from Blazin’ Squad, I’m guessing a bit, but he must be 40 now,” a statement corrected by Susanna, who affirmed that Marcel is 39.

Fellow GMB host Ed jumped into their exchange, adding: “That does not make him old!” but Iain cheekily concluded: “But, older than me. You shouldn’t be older than me and doing Love Island, I don’t think.”

Marcel, originally known from Blazin’ Squad fame, is a returning face to the iconic Love Island villa in the show’s All Stars second series. He will be joined by other alumni including Curtis Pritchard, Gabby Allen, Nas Majeed, Elma Pazar, India Reynolds, Luca Bish, Kaz Crossley, Catherine Agbaje, Olivia Hawkins, Scott Thomas, and Ronnie Vint for the upcoming series, reports Wales Online.

There’ll definitely be drama upon Marcel’s return to the show, with him and fellow Islander Gabby having previously been in a relationship after meeting on series three. Since Marcel’s initial Love Island stint, he’s also been married and welcomed a son with his former wife.

Reflecting on his decision to make a comeback, Marcel shared: “I thought that I’d completed love and found my happily ever after but the universe had a different plan. Somehow every time my life’s at a crossroads, I’ve got the opportunity to do Love Island. So I thought, why not? “.

Discussing the insights he gained since appearing on the ITV2 reality series, Marcel, now 39, confided: “In my series I was deemed ‘Dr Marcel’, I was giving everyone love advice. Since the show, I’ve gone through a lot of situations in life and in love so I’ve topped up my knowledge… but I feel like maybe I need to take some advice when it comes to love this time round as well.”

Love Island All Stars begins on ITV2 and ITVX on Monday 13 January at 9pm.
