A lot of couples struggle to agree on a baby name that they both like.
And one mum said that is the exact case for her and her husband, as he think her name choice for their baby girl ‘sounds like a video game character’.
The woman took to Reddit to moan about the situation in a post titled, ‘The fight for baby girl’s name rages on…’
She wrote: “I’m having a baby girl! Yay! But the fight for her name is never ending.”
Explaining the situation, the woman said: “We have a son, whom my husband named Dominic Santiago and honestly…I’ve never been a fan. Even now 6 years later I still find myself wishing I got to name him… so now with baby girl I’m fighting hard for a name that i actually like!
“My number one name is Ayla. Middle name is undecided but I love Ayla. My husband says it sounds ‘fantasy, like a video game or book character name’. I told him I personally know another Ayla and she’s great but he says it sounds fake and he can’t picture an adult with that name.”
The mum added: “Am I being hard headed? Does Ayla sound fake? Does it even go well with our son’s name? ‘These are my kids, Dominic and Ayla…’, ugh I’m really second guessing myself. My husband is into names I really don’t like, think Sarah, Peyton, Ashley, Rebecca… so I don’t know how much stake I’m putting in his opinion lol.”
Many were on the woman’s side, as one person wrote: “Ayla is fine! It’s just not very common, but definitely not made up!” While another agreed: “Ayla isn’t that unheard of and it doesn’t sound bad with Dominic.”
A third also chimed in: “Ayla isn’t a super made up name?! Honestly I’d kinda put it in a like up with Sarah and Rebecca. It has that classical ring to it you know? Same vibe in my opinion.”
However, they did add that the woman may want to come to a compromise with her husband, adding: “I think you guys could probably keep looking and find a name that sounds good t both of you. Some ideas: Isla Aria Layla Lila Anya Ava Mila Ella Eira Lyra Amara Selah Nola Freya Thea Elena.”
Someone else said they ‘preferred the husband’s choice’, while one more person added: “Ayla is the main character in the Clan of the Cave Bear, a fantasy book set in prehistoric times. Maybe that’s why it sounds made up to him.”
