An 18-year-old student is fighting for his life after being stabbed near Shooters Hill Sixth Form College in Woolwich, south east London.

The incident occurred yesterday at around 4.20pm on Prince Imperial Road, close to the college.


The victim, who is a Year 12 student at the sixth form college, was found suffering from stab wounds.

He was treated at the scene before being rushed to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

The college has confirmed the young man is one of their students and has closed its doors today, except for scheduled examinations.

Principal Geoff Osborne said: “At approximately 4.20pm yesterday in Prince Imperial Road close to the college a young man who is in Year 12 at Shooters Hill Sixth Form was stabbed.”

“This incident continues to be investigated by the police, and we are not in a position to release more details other than that the young man is receiving medical care for his injuries,” he added.

A notice on the college’s website confirms students will receive updates via text message.

Students who are scheduled to sit exams today should attend as planned, while all other pupils have been told to stay at home.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Police were called at approximately 4.20pm on Monday, January 6 to reports of a stabbing in Prince Imperial Road.”

“Officers responded to the scene and found an 18-year-old man suffering from stab wounds,” they added.

The spokesman confirmed the victim “was treated at the location before being transported to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition”.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Police investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.

The college is offering support and counselling to anyone affected by the incident.

“Our thoughts are with the family and the victim, and we ask that everyone respects their privacy at this difficult time,” Principal Osborne said.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
