Limescale tops the list as the primary culprit behind grimy shower screens, closely followed by soap scum. Limescale is essentially impure water containing a mix of minerals and metals such as calcium, fluoride, or magnesium.
The ‘hardness’ of water is determined by the quantity of these minerals present. Thus, ‘hard water’ signifies a high concentration of minerals and metals, which, when mixed with soap, leads to that unsightly residue on taps, tiles, and shower screens.
Limescale is particularly noticeable on shower glass and can detract from the aesthetic of your bathroom. Yet, there are natural cleaning methods available that don’t always involve white vinegar, reports the Express.
The cleaning experts at @thecleangroup on Instagram have revealed how hotel cleaners manage to get shower screens looking “flawless” in mere seconds. In their video caption, they remarked: “It’s not vinegar! Think about how spotless hotel bathrooms are and yet they are used so heavily.”
They added: “Well, hotel cleaners are absolute experts when it comes to a flawless finish.” According to them, the secret natural component is a “melamine sponge,” also known as a magic eraser.
The experts explained: “They are not just for getting marks out of walls. A damp melamine sponge will eat through limescale, soap scum and watermarks in 15 seconds.
“I’ve been using them for clients (and my own) showers for the last six months and, I promise you – you will never get a finish like this any other way. I can’t wait to hear your verdict. It’s a game changer – and I don’t say that lightly.”
A magic eraser is crafted from a unique, lightweight melamine resin foam which delves into the surface’s grooves, disintegrating grime and heaving it off with mere water. The cleaning guru showcased the method in a video, where they took a drenched magic eraser to a shower screen plagued by limescale and followed up with a microfibre cloth to reveal the after effects – leaving a “flawless finish” behind.
