Northern Ireland defender Aaron Donnelly is reportedly close to a return to Scottish Premiership side Dundee.

The 21-year-old is currently on loan at Colchester United from Premier League high flyers Nottingham Forest.

Donnelly is out-of-contract in the summer and the Dark Blues are eager to wrap up a deal.

The former Dungannon Swifts youngster had a successful loan spell at Dens Park last season.

Dundee tried to buy him in the summer but were unable to agree a suitable deal with Forest.

The centre-back, who has played just once for Forest’s senior side, made the move to the City Ground from Dungannon Swifts in 2019 before signing his first professional deal with the club in 2021.

Donnelly, who also had a loan spell at Port Vale, made his senior Northern Ireland debut last June in a friendly against Andorra in Murcia.

He replaced Ciaron Brown in the 69th minute during the 2–0 victory.
