Locals and fans of a popular restaurant venue on Shirehampton Road have been left wondering if it has closed for good, after it failed to open on Tuesday (January 7). When BristolLive visited The Hideaway on Tuesday afternoon, the venue was closed and several confused locals were outside, wondering why it wasn’t open – it usually opens seven days a week.

At time of writing there is no message of the closure on The Hideaway‘s website, and its social media profiles – Facebook and Instagram – appear to have been deleted or disabled. When BristolLive called the venue’s phone number, there was no reply.

Local residents were quick to share their sadness and speculation around the suspected closure on neighbourhood site Nextdoor. One wrote: “Sad to hear about the closure of The Hideaway on Shirehampton Road. A sign of the times.”

Another agreed, writing: “Really sad to hear, such a great place”, while a third commented: “Yes a real shame. Went there many times and was great for kids. I only hope they had a five year lease break clause which they exercised, rather than have had to go into liquidation.”

And a fourth said: “Very sad to hear this is going – not much else around in the way of local coffee shops – a smaller more basic coffee shop would be good – much needed!”

Photos captured by BristolLive show the venue almost frozen in time, empty of people, but with clean and neatly arranged furniture and decor, which looked ordinarily like the restaurant had simply closed for the day. There were no signs on the windows or doors to give a reason for the closure, either.

The Hideaway has a 4.3 star rating on Google, which also shows no message of the venue’s closure. One recent review reads: “Delicious food, good value, beautifully presented, and always something interesting to try. Combined with the elegant decor and chill atmosphere – it’s 100% worth the detour.

“Big thank you to Eddie and Kesi for making me so welcome, and my compliments to the chef!”

BristolLive is working to try and find out more on this story and has tried to contact The Hideaway for more information. We’ll be sure to bring you all the latest on this as we get it.
