Connacht have confirmed that attack coach Mark Sexton will leave the province at the end of the season “to take up a new opportunity.”

That opportunity is expected to be at Ulster, where Sexton has been strongly linked with reuniting with Richie Murphy, whom he worked under with the Ireland U-20s.

Prior to being promoted as Connacht’s attack coach in 2023, Sexton, younger brother of Ireland great Johnny, worked with the Westerners as an elite development officer.

He enjoyed great success with the Ireland U-20s, whom he helped win two Grand Slams.

Sexton may not be the only member of Pete Wilkins backroom team set to depart because as previously reported by the Irish Independent, Munster are understood to be keen to hire Limerick native Cullie Tucker as scrum coach.

Connacht are under pressure to turn their season around, as they current lie in 13th position of the URC table.

The province wished Sexton well in his next move:

“We’d like to thank Mark for all his contributions to Connacht, and wish him well for the future. Here’s to a strong end to the season.”
