BBC Breakfast presenter Nina Warhurst made an on-air apology to her colleague Jon Kay during Tuesday morning’s broadcast. This occurred as the pair were previewing what was to come later in the programme.

They let viewers know that they would be looking into Jon’s stint on Celebrity Mastermind, showing a brief clip of him answering a question from host Clive Myrie.

The voice of Clive Myrie could be heard asking: “The five-letter word telly is an informal name for what household appliance?” To which Jon correctly responded ‘television’, and Clive confirmed his answer as correct.

Returning to the studio, Jon humorously teased Nina saying: “You’d never of got that would you?” He defended the seemingly straightforward question by telling his co-presenter that they became more challenging as the game progressed.

Nina confessed: “I’ve not seen it yet, I’m sorry I’m a bad friend! How did it go?” reports the Express.

Sharing a laugh, Jon replied: “I’m going to make you watch it! ” He reassured Nina that she didnt miss much, admitting the show went alright, although he hadn’t seemed troubled that she had yet to see the episode.

While acknowledging the nerve-wracking nature of his quiz appearance, Nina commended Jon, saying: “I think you’re really brave to do it! I take my hat off to you.”

Jon expressed his surprise, responding: “I thought you had all done it. I thought it was a right of passage for being on this programme.”

Despite this, Nina firmly insisted she would be too nervous, imagining her mind would blank if she ever took part in the quiz.

Facing the camera with jest, Jon remarked: “I’m giving Clive your number!”

Jon appeared on the popular BBC show on Monday evening, joining stars such as actress Beattie Edmondson, singer Suzanne Shaw, and comedian Glenn Moore.

Each celebrity took their place in the renowned black chair, tasked with fielding questions across a variety of subjects to raise funds for their chosen charities.

During the programme, it was revealed that Jon had selected the iconic 1980s sitcom The Young Ones as his specialist subject. Armed with a minute and a half, Jon successfully answered nine questions, passing on just one.

Clive broached the topic of his role as host on BBC Breakfast. He queried, “Millions of people wake up to you, what’s it like realising that your face is the first face they see?”

To which Jon retorted: “I think it was the late Bill Turnbull who said, ‘The thing you’ve got to remember is lots of people are watching, which is scary, but a lot of them are in their pants!'”

He added, “So that’s what you have to try to imagine, but also try not to imageine at the same time! It’s a massive responsibility, but people still turn to the telly in the morning to find out what’s happened overnight and what they need to know for the day ahead.”

BBC Breakfast is on BBC One weekdays at 6am and on BBC iPlayer
