Toyota’s globally renowned hybrid-electric vehicle, the Prius, returns for 2025 with standard all-wheel-drive (AWD) and enhanced safety features. It is available now, with a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $38,165 in Canada.

Built on Toyota’s second-generation TNGA-C platform, the Prius combines aerodynamic styling with a spacious cabin that features seating for five, soft-touch materials, and a 60-40 split-folding rear seat for increased cargo versatility. Heated and power-adjustable front seats and a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel are all standard.

Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system powers the Prius, pairing a 2.0L Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and continuously variable transmission (CVT). The hybrid powertrain generates 196 horsepower and achieves a zero-to-100-km/h acceleration time of 7.2 seconds. Fuel efficiency is rated at 4.8 L/100 km in combined city and highway driving.

The 2025 Prius comes with an electronic on-demand AWD system, as well as Normal, Eco, and Sport drive modes to adjust performance settings.

Technology and safety remain central to the new Prius. All models include the Toyota Multimedia system, which offers wireless compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard and features pre-collision systems, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, and pedestrian detection. Additional safety technologies include a Blind Spot Monitor with Safe Exit Assist and more.

The 2025 Prius is available in two trims. The XLE AWD, starting at $38,165, features an eight-inch touchscreen display, Softex upholstery, and 19-inch alloy wheels. At $44,280, the Limited AWD upgrades to a 12.3-inch touchscreen, JBL eight-speaker audio system, glass roof, and heated and ventilated seats. It also offers a Panoramic View Monitor and Advanced Park assistance.

The 2025 Toyota Prius is now available at dealerships across Canada. Pricing and details for the 2025 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid, or PHEV – previously known as the “Prime” – should be forthcoming.
