Amanda Holden jokingly claimed that Prue Leith was no Adele while addressing her recent appearance on The Masked Singer today.
Back on Heart FM with JK, the pair discussed the return of the ITV show, which saw Kate Garraway and Prue being unveiled as the first two masked celebrities.
Ahead of speaking with Prue live in the studio, JK played a clip of The Great British Bake Off judge singing the hit, Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’ from the programme.
As the song played out, Amanda quipped: “I think Adele’s safe,” to which JK laughed and added: “The similarities are uncanny.”
“Bless her,” Amanda continued. “You just… it’s the taking part that counts.”
Sympathising with the contestants, the presenter went on to say it was “brilliant” how they managed to do it all while covered by such huge masks.
Later, while the hosts were catching up with Prue, the professional baker said she is aware that she doesn’t have a good voice, and initially thought about turning down the show.
Following years of not being able to “get a noise out”, Prue said she hired a vocal coach to expand her singing abilities and confidence.
“It [singing] is joyous, it’s a joyous thing to be able to do,” Amanda chimed in. “And it’s so brave to do it how you did it, as well, it’s extraordinary. I absolutely loved it.”
Prue went on to praise the production team for encouraging her to take part, after initially telling them they had “asked the wrong person”.
Recalling their conversation, she added: “‘Not only am I tone deaf, I cannot tell whether I am in tune or not’. I still can’t by the way.
“She [a producer] said, ‘Look we’ve been doing this for, however many years, we have never had a failure, we’ve never had somebody who we’ve not been able to help get to sing’.
“They were just so encouraging and so lovely and, in the end, I was singing to them over the phone.”
Prue became the second contestant to be voted off the show on Sunday night, following Kate’s reveal.
In reaction to her identity being exposed, many viewers fumed over how easy it was to guess. “#maskedsingeruk probably the easiest one ever,” one wrote on the platform X.
A second added: “Definitely Prue Leith… there was no attempt to alter the voice or disguise it. #TheMaskedSinger.”
“It was so obvious. No surprises here – Pegasus is definitely Prue,” a third added.
