Uncertainty looms around the future of the cherished TV show All Creatures Great and Small after one of its actors expressed ambiguity about upcoming seasons.
The beloved series All Creatures Great and Small, a reboot of the classic tales by famed author and vet James Herriot, has charmed viewers since its 2020 relaunch on Channel 5. Set in charming 1930s Yorkshire, it revives the treasured drama initially brought to life by the BBC in the late 1970s.
In an exciting announcement made in February 2024, Channel 5 confirmed that fans could look forward to both seasons five and six of the heartwarming drama.
The release of the fifth season saw Nicholas Ralph, who portrays the earnest veterinary surgeon James Herriot, reflect on what’s next for the series.
In his comments to The Sun, Nicholas revealed: “As far as All Creatures goes, we love making it and can’t wait to go back out next year, and we’ll see what the future holds.”
He also added: “I don’t know what the future holds for All Creatures, but yeah, as far as we’re concerned as long as people keep watching and enjoying it, I’m sure we’ll endeavour to keep making it.”
Devotees of the show can breathe easier knowing there is at least the promise of one more series, with production for the sixth season scheduled to commence in the near future, reports the Express.
The recent Christmas special of All Creatures Great and Small left its audience deeply moved. In a poignant narrative, the episode disclosed that HMS Repulse had fallen to Japanese forces off Malaysia’s coast, carrying among its ranks Edward, Mrs Hall’s son.
With the fate of roughly half the ship’s crew shrouded in mystery, Edward’s story remained unresolved, leaving viewers hanging onto hope.
Mrs Hall was gripped with anxiety as she scoured the newspaper for Edward’s name among the confirmed casualties, only to find it absent. The tension only grew when she received a letter from her son, which heartbreakingly predated the attack, leaving his fate in the balance.
The programme later unveiled that Edward had indeed survived the ordeal and was on the mend in a Singapore hospital, much to the viewers’ collective sigh of relief.
Fans were quick to take to social media to express their emotions, with one viewer posting: “There you go, wrecking my heart again! Cannot wait to see the new season.” Another shared their emotional response: “Made me cry! Brilliant!”
A third fan also shared their sentiments, commenting: “In tears! What a wonderful episode! Loved it!”
