RuPaul’s Drag Race UK and Dancing on Ice Star, The Vivienne, has died aged 32. A spokesperson for the Drag Race UK star confirmed the devastating news on social media Sunday evening.
They released a statement saying: “It is with immense sadness that we let you know our beloved James Lee Williams – The Vivienne, has passed this weekend. James was an incredibly loved, warm-hearted and amazing person.
“Their family are heartbroken at the loss of their son, brother and uncle. They are so proud of the wonderful things James achieved in their life and career. We will not be releasing any further details.
“We please ask that James’s family are given the time and privacy they now need to process and grieve.”
Simon Jones, who was a close friend and publicist for The Vivienne, shared the news with a broken heart emoji, reports the Mirror.
Tributes have poured in from friends and colleagues. Michelle Visage expressed her devastation, commenting: “I don’t have the words. Utterly heartbroken.”
Brian Dowling commented: “Simon this is absolutely heartbreaking.” Emmerdale’s Lisa Riley simply wrote: “Broken,” accompanied by crying emojis.
Harriet Rose, a presenter, conveyed her condolences: “Oh Simon I’m so sorry for your loss. That is absolutely heartbreaking.” Radio host James Barr added: “Simon I’m so so sorry. I’m heartbroken. James was such a beautiful person.”
Pussycat Dolls star Ashley Roberts expressed her deep sorrow, commenting: “Omg! I can’t believe this. This is heartbreaking news,” and included a broken heart emoji. The cause of death for drag superstar The Vivienne remains unconfirmed.
The vibrant performer, famed for her affinity for clothing designed by the late fashion icon Vivienne Westwood—after whom she was named—rose to prominence as the UK Drag Ambassador for the US edition of RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2015. They later triumphed in the 2019 UK series and participated in other acclaimed shows.
