The icy and frosty conditions have wreaked havoc on Northern Ireland sport this weekend with important fixtures in football, GAA and hockey called off.

In the Fifth Round of the Irish Cup, four games have been postponed following failed pitch inspections on Saturday morning, while another has been flipped amid the freezing temperatures.

Glenavon’s hosting of Dundela, Moyola Park’s trip to Belfast Celtic, Ballyclare Comrades’ visit to Dollingstown and Institute’s home game with Loughgall all fell foul of the weather on Saturday.

Knockbreda were meant to host Crusaders at Breda Park, but that game has been flipped following an inspection with the Crues welcoming Breda to Seaview for a 2pm kick-off.

But the Dungannon Swifts v Rathfriland and Ballymacash Rangers v Ballinamallard United ties go ahead after 11am pitch inspections, as does Bangor’s hosting of Newington.

Meanwhile, the All-Ireland Senior Club Championship Semi-Final tie between Dr Crokes and Errigal Ciaran that was due to be played on Sunday has been postponed.

The game was put back to Saturday, January 11 following a failed pitch inspection on Saturday morning.

The GAA said in a statement: “Due to the current weather forecast, the GAA will monitor the pitches over the weekend. Any further changes will be notified as soon as possible.”

And the men’s and women’s club hockey has also been postponed, with weather warnings put in place across Northern Ireland with snow and ice expected throughout the weekend.

That includes Saturday’s action in the Kirk Cup and the Legacy Wealth Management Premier League.
