Portadown could extend their lead at the top of the Legacy Wealth Management Premier League to six points as they face Ballymoney on Saturday afternoon.
The Edenvilla side are currently three points clear at the top of the division, but having already played one game more than their nearest challengers Queen’s University.
Unbeaten in their 11 League games to date, Portadown come into the game off the back of their 5-0 thrashing of Lurgan when the division’s top scorer Evie Girvan brought her season’s tally to 13 alongside goals from Lara Wilson and Katie Herron.
They now face a Ballymoney side who they beat 5-1 on matchday three when Rebekah Lennon, Leah Galbraith, Serena Campuzano, Herron and Girvan all got on the scoresheet.
However, the visitors come into this tie in decent form having picked up four points from their last three games, most recently drawing 1-1 with Banbridge and will be optimistic of causing an upset.
Title rivals Queen’s University are in Cup action as they host Lisnagarvey in matchday one of the Denman Shield.
Simon Bell’s side are also unbeaten this campaign, but now turn their attention to Cup action and face a Lisnagarvey outfit who are also in the top spots of the Legacy Wealth Management Premier League.
The two sides have already met twice this season and it is the student side who edge the head-to-head battle.
A Mimi Bradley strike was the difference between the two sides in September before the they proved inseparable in the reverse fixture, drawing 1-1 with goals from Beth Ravey and Jenna McCarlie.
Elsewhere in the competition, EYHL side Ards take on Premiership side Belfast Harlequins at Londonderry Park.
As the side from the higher division, it is the hosts who come into the tie as heavy favourites but they come into the game having been without a game since November.
That day goals from Phoebe Russell and Zara Malseed sealed a 2-0 win over Old Alex, securing just a second normal-time victory of the EYHL season.
Meanwhile, the visitors are having a strong League season themselves, sitting just a point outside the EYHL2 qualification places.
Quins are unbeaten in their last three games, most recently earning a comfortable 5-0 victory over Lisnagarvey with goals from Jenna McAuley (2), Katie Larmour, Claire Whiteside and Megan Getty.
Given their own recent form and Ards’ lack of match practice, the Belfast side will be optimistic they can cause a Cup upset to start 2025.
