Plans for two new apartment blocks on the outskirts of Bristol have been given approval after legal agreements were signed for the project. The new apartments will be built on a piece of triangular land in Bradley Stoke, east of Bradley Stoke Way.

South Gloucestershire Council gave planning permission after a series of changes were made to the initial proposals, which were filed in April 2023. These include reducing the number of apartments from 57 down to 50.

A section 106 agreement has been signed off, meaning that the council and developers are in a legal contract for the development. It aims to reduce the impact of the development on the local community.

The buildings, which would sit between the Baileys Court Road roundabout and the Winterbourne Road roundabout, would contain a mixture of one-bed and two-bed apartments. The 50 apartments are split into 18 one-beds and 32 two-beds across the two buildings, both of which will be four storeys high.

A total of 35 per cent of the apartments, equating to 18 apartments, will be affordable housing. These include social rent and shared ownership apartments, whilst 10 per cent of affordable homes meet the wheelchair access requirements.

As well as the reduction in the number of apartments from the initial plans, the buildings will be set back from the road by a minimum of ten metres to reduce any impact from being close to a major road. A green corridor will be created throughout the site.

In a decision dated Monday, December 16, the council approved planning permission for the project to move forwards. There are 28 conditions attached to the planning permission, which includes developments to begin within three years.

Construction will be limited to between 7.30am and 6pm Monday to Friday and from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays. In addition to the apartments, cycle parking will be created and landscaping will take place.
