A Tyneside marine equipment specialist has snapped up a complementary business in Devon to aid its strategic growth.
Marine Chandlery was formed last year when luxury yacht company West Nautical stepped in to buy well-established business Storrar Marine out of liquidation. The Newcastle firm acquired the marine and watersports equipment and accessories specialist in June of last year, relaunching it soon after to customers from a new base in North Shields, North Tyneside, under the new name of Marine Chandlery.
Now the business has announced the acquisition of Bayside Marine’s assets as part of its strategic growth plan. The agreement for the acquisition was finalised in late November, and the stock transfer has now been completed.
Bayside Marine is a well-established name and business in the marine industry and it has served the boating community in the Brixham area for over 20 years. The firm started out in 1998 under the name of Becconsall Fishing Gear Supplies, providing goods to commercial fishing fleets from their store in the Devon coastal town.
After seeing success as a fishing supplier, the business tested the waters within the growing local leisure market in 2002, expanding to launch an eBay store which allowed them to reach customers from further afield, a move which was ramped up through its own website.
Geoff Moore, owner of Marine Chandlery, said the business has experienced a robust start, establishing itself well among marine enthusiasts and professionals, adding that the acquisition of Bayside Marine’s assets marks an exciting milestone in its growth journey.
He said that acquiring the Bayside Marine stock and leveraging their established online presence, including their website and social media channels, would see Marine Chandlery expand its reach and better serve its growing customer base.
Mr Moore added: “Marine Chandlery remains committed to delivering exceptional service and a comprehensive range of marine products. Customers can look forward to continued innovation and growth as the company builds on its strong foundation.”
