A handwritten script from the much loved British sitcom Dad’s Army has sold at an auction – for £6,500. The script recently unearthed on an episode of the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow was sold at the Auctioneum Ltd in Bristol, as part of their annual British Comedy Auction on New Year’s Eve.

It was handwritten by the show’s co-creator David Croft for an episode entitled ‘Sgt – Save My Boy!’ – which sees Private Pike get stranded on a mined beach and in need of rescue by the platoon.

Auctioneer Andrew Stowe said the script surpassed the estimated sale price of £5,000 seeing the hammer come down at £6,500.

It sold for £6.5k

The manuscript features 34 handwritten pages by Croft, and would have later been dictated, copied and eventually typed into rehearsal scripts for the cast and crew to use during filming.

Mr Stowe said: “It’s a unique piece of comedy history.”

The manuscript was filmed as part of a special TV & Film Memorabilia edition of the BBC ’s Antiques Roadshow broadcast earlier last year.
