A travel guide’s annual ranking of cuisines from around the world crowned food from Greece at the top with a score of 4.6 out of 5.

TasteAtlas said it analyzed more than 477,000 ratings from its users of 15,000 foods from across the globe.

Users gave high marks to Fystiki Aeginas (roasted pistachios with sea salt), two local olive oils and a fava bean puree called Fava Santorinis.

Other popular dishes of the Mediterranean cuisine include gyros, moussaka, Greek salad and tzatziki.

Italy followed right behind Greece with a score of 4.59. Pizza Napoletana, Parmigiano Reggiano and Gianduja chocolate, invented in Turin, were the top foods among user ratings.

Mexican, Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish, Indonesian, French, Japanese and Chinese cuisines rounded out the top 10.

Canadian cuisine received a score of 4.17, good for 43rd. Pacific smoked salmon, Montreal smoked meat and Yukon Gold potatoes received the best scores.

Poutine, Quebec’s carb-heavy french fry treat drowned with gravy and cheese curds, also got a strong mark as well as the unique uramaki sushi dish, BeaverTails, Montreal-style bagels and saskatoon berry pies.

South of the border, American foods were ranked 13th with a 4.42 rating as lobster and salmon dishes were user favourites along with South Texas-style barbecue.

Other notable countries included India, which tied American and Polish cuisines with an overall 4.42 rating as well.

Peruvian, Serbian, Brazilian, Croatian, Colombian, Vietnamese and Hungarian cuisines rounded out the top 20 countries.

Meanwhile, English foods were rated a dismal 48th with clotted cream ice cream, cheddar cheese and Devonshire clotted cream voted the best among users.
