Asda has announced a massive price slash on various items just days after the New Year’s celebrations of 2024. The supermarket giant is offering an average discount of 26% across 2,500 essential products available in-store and online.

Shoppers can expect to find reductions on well-loved brands such as Cathedral City Mature Cheddar, Dolmio Bolognese Sauce, and Persil Non-Bio, alongside Asda’s own quality products including their Whole Chicken and Salmon Fillets. It comes as part of Asda’s commitment to support households during the ongoing cost-of-living squeeze, according to the Mirror.

David Hills, Chief Customer Officer at Asda, explained: “We know that as we come out of the festive period, budgets can be a concern for many families. Our Big Jan Price Drop aims to ease that burden and make money stretch further for our customers, by reducing the prices of the products they’re buying week in, week out, continuing to offer uncompromising value to all.”

The initiative also follows news that Morrisons has expanded its Aldi and Lidl price match scheme to cover over 500 items. This expansion includes everyday essentials such as olive oil, coffee, eggs, single cream, and pasta sauce.

Morrisons assured that all products included in this initiative are priced the same as, or lower than, those found at Aldi and Lidl. The supermarket kicked off its price match scheme in February 2024, covering more than 200 products.

Now, it conducts bi-weekly checks on these items and modifies prices as needed. Customers can benefit from these discounts in all Morrisons stores and online, however, Price Matched goods are not accessible via third-party platforms such as Amazon or Deliveroo.
