• Ford is recalling 295,449 Super Duty trucks in the U.S. for potential fuel-pump failure
  • Recalls were also issued for potential problems with other Ford and Lincoln vehicles
  • So far Transport Canada hasn’t issued any, but they may be coming

Ford issued four separate recalls late in December in the U.S., the largest one covering 295,449 Super Duty trucks for an issue with biodiesel that could potentially cause the high-pressure fuel pump to fail. The other three, for other Ford and Lincoln vehicles, include a potentially faulty window switch; malfunctioning rearview cameras; and a manufacturing defect in hybrid battery cells. All of these were issued in the U.S. on December 20, 2024. So far, Transport Canada hasn’t issued recalls for these defects, but it will if vehicles here are affected.

The fuel pump problem affects certain 2020- to 2022-model-year copies of diesel-equipped F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 trucks; and 2021 to 2022 F-650 and F-750 models. Deposits from biodiesel may form on the pump drivetrain roller components, which in turn could cause failure of the high-pressure fuel pump. The recall involves updating the power control module (PCM) software.

The power window switch issue affects 47,818 copies (in the U.S.) of the 2024 and 2025 Lincoln Nautilus. These vehicles have automatic up-down windows, meaning if you tap the window switch firmly, the window will open or close all the way without the need to hold the switch. Auto-down is straightforward, and many vehicles have just that feature; but to also have auto-up, it must have an obstacle detection system that stops the window and puts it back down if something’s in the way, such as someone’s fingers.

In the affected vehicles, that reversing system may not react correctly, and won’t lower the window far enough to meet NHTSA’s safety standard. Dealers will recalibrate the front-door modules. This is related to an earlier recall that affected some 2024 Nautilus and also some 2024 Ford Ranger vehicles. That recall, in August 2024, also affected 6,874 vehicles in Canada, and was covered under Transport Canada’s Recall 2024-463.

The rearview camera recall in the U.S. affects 30,715 copies of the 2019 Ford Fiesta, Ford Flex, and Lincoln MKT. Their rearview cameras – which became mandatory on all new vehicles sold in Canada and the U.S. starting on May 1, 2018 – may intermittently malfunction, displaying either a blank screen or a distorted image. Ford’s still working on a fix for it and will notify U.S. owners in early February.

The battery issue affects 20,484 hybrid models in the U.S. of the 2020- to 2024-model-year Ford Escape and 2021 to 2024 Lincoln Corsair. A manufacturing defect in one or more cells in the high-voltage traction battery could have an internal short-circuit, with subsequent battery failure that would result in loss of drive power. Dealers will update the software for the battery energy control module (BECM), and, if necessary, replace the battery pack.

All recall repairs must be performed by dealerships at no charge. If you think your vehicle may be affected by a recall, you can check Transport Canada’s website.

Recalls don’t necessarily apply to all vehicles, even if they’re the same model or model year, and owners can check theirs specifically by visiting Ford Canada’s recall page or Lincoln Canada’s recall page, or by calling their customer service numbers (obviously, for other brands, check that automaker’s consumer website for its recall page). You’ll need your vehicle identification number, or VIN. It’s the 17-digit collection of letters and numbers found on your ownership, or visible on the driver’s side of the dash through the windshield.

If a recall applies to your vehicle, the automaker must send you a recall notice by stamp-on-the-envelope mail. If you move or purchase a used vehicle, contact that brand’s customer service and update your mailing address so you’ll receive any recalls that are issued for it.
