Donegal side Four Masters proved too strong for O’Donovan Rossa Magherafelt in coming out on top by 1-8 to 0-9 when the sides met in the annual Ulster Minor Club Football Tournament Final at the St Paul’s club in Belfast on Wednesday.
The Four Masters side thus retained the title which they won last year by beating Cavan Gaels in the Final but by half-time this time round the sides were deadlocked at 0-4 to 0-4.
It was in the third quarter, though, that Four Masters struck a decisive blow when Darragh Griffin, who had posed a danger throughout, pounced for what proved to be the only goal of the game.
And when Conor McCahill followed this score up with a point the Donegal outfit held a 1-5 to 0-5 lead.
The Magherafelt side responded more enthusiastically in the last quarter but they missed several scoring chances.
However, when Four Masters won a clutch of frees nearing full-time Conal Higgins proved the epitome of accuracy in helping himself to three points from placed balls which allowed his side to emerge as the winners.
