A man’s body has been discovered on a Somerset beach, sparking an investigation into the circumstances of his death. The Coastguard and RNLI teams were alerted to the scene, located between Minehead and Highbridge, at around 11.50am on Saturday, December 28, 2024.
Following a report from a member of the public, emergency services were dispatched to Lilstock Beach. A body of a man was found and recovered from the scene, Avon and Somerset Police said.
The cause of death is being treated as unexplained, and an investigation is underway. Efforts are being made to identify the man, believed to be between 40 and 60 years old at the time of death, reports Somerset Live. A post-mortem examination will be conducted ahead of an inquest to probe the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson stated: “At 11.53am on Saturday 28 December, we were called to Lilstock Beach following the discovery of a body by a member of the public.
“Officers attended, along with emergency service colleagues, and the body of a man was recovered from the beach. The death is currently being treated as unexplained, pending the outcome of a forensic post-mortem examination.
“Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man, who is believed to be aged between 40 and 60, and inform their next of kin.”
