Investigators believe a doctor based in Beverly Hills, Calif., accused of drugging and raping an employee could be responsible for additional crimes.
Babak Hajhosseini, the founder of the Wound and Burn Centers of America, was arrested on Nov. 26 and charged with sexually assaulting an unconscious person, the Los Angeles Police Department said, per People.
The 42-year-old was released on bail on Nov. 29, but was indicted by a grand jury on Dec. 23 on two counts of rape by use of drugs, one count of raping an unconscious or asleep person, one count of oral copulation by anesthesia or controlled substance and four counts of oral copulation of an unconscious or asleep person.
According to the LAPD’s allegations, Hajhosseini, who also worked as a visiting physician at Catalina Island Health on Catalina Island, enticed employees to his residence by offering overtime payment.
Once, police said, he “pressured” a female employee to drink a boozy beverage, causing her to pass out, then allegedly sexually assaulted her and recorded the incident.
Police believe there may be additional victims and urge anyone with information to come forward.
According to the Los Angeles Daily News, Hajhosseini has pleaded not guilty to the charges. His attorney denied the allegations and said his client passed a polygraph test.
“Dr. Hajhosseini will try his case in court, not in the media. In the courtroom, cases are decided based on evidence, not innuendo,” attorney Caleb Mason said.
“In fact, there is substantial evidence proving that these allegations are false and that evidence will be presented in court. Additionally, Dr. Hajhosseini voluntarily took a polygraph exam, which he passed. Dr. Hajhosseini looks forward to complete vindication in court.”
