As we brace ourselves for the colder months, the experts at Bright and Beautiful have issued a warning about the potential hazards lurking on our patios and driveways.

These stone surfaces can become perilously slick if not maintained, posing a real danger when the frost sets in.

A spokesperson insisted that combating this slipperiness needn’t involve harsh chemicals or ineffective household remedies; instead, soda crystals are the way forward—effective and easy to use.

The cleaning guru explained, “Many patios and decking become dull, unattractive, and even dangerously slippery due to moss and algae.”

They continued: “Soda crystals are a great option to blast through any moss and algae, leaving your patio beautifully clean.”

These alkaline crystals thwart the growth of moss and algae by creating an environment they can’t endure and also help to dehydrate and quickly kill off the moss.

Aside from eradicating these grievances, soda crystals will cleanse your patio of dirt, deterring any future growth. To apply, simply scatter a liberal dose of soda crystals over the affected areas, reports the Express.

On a clear day, it’s ideal to tackle patio cleaning as the wind can disperse soda crystals. If it’s breezy, simply use a watering can to wet the soda crystals and keep them in place.

Leave the crystals undisturbed for around two days to allow them to break down and dehydrate the mould spores. You’ll know the moss is dead when it turns brown and brittle.

Then, take a broom on the end of a spade to scrape off the moss and algae. Dispose of the debris in the bin to prevent regrowth, particularly on damp ground.

After this, your patio will be spotless and ready for relaxation in the upcoming warmer weather. The expert advised: “And there you have it, a brand new looking patio ready for garden parties and sunbathing in the sunny months!”

However, the experts added a cautionary note: “Please note, soda crystals can be harmful to household pets if ingested, so ensure you are monitoring your furry friends whilst the soda crystals do their work.”
